ColorLink's ColorComb take on 3D monitors
We love 3D, who doesn't? We'll stop at nothing to get that third dimension, you
know? We put up with anaglyphs, crazy glasses, polarized glass,
but ColorLink's ColorComb eyepieces (yeah yeah yeah) have an angle on the Z-axis we've never seen taken before (no no
no). Their new stereoscopic 3D headgear uses those already-on-the-market six-color LED backlit LCDs to simulate 3D, and
can also be used like Sharp's
dual-angled screens to enforce privacy or display multiple virtual-optical screens. They also had a 17-inch SXGA 3D
monitor they announced, but we aren't yet clear whether that uses the same backlit LED panels necessary for taking
advantage of their ColorComb. We know, we know, wearable 3D anything will never be the same as the taunting help me
Obi Wan we've been chasing for nearly 30 years, but for now we'll takes what we can gets.[Via Let's Go Digital]

I think this great idea, but to cost one dear.

The press release is a bit sketchy on the detail but I would love if this were true. One small concern is that they say most games are 3d capable already. I did not realise this was the case. A true 3d ready game would output two images taken from slightly different viewing angles. Not the same image offset by a few centimetres.

I don't get the big deal about full 3D holograms. Do we really need to see someone's arse in order to feel that we're "really talking to them"? If you've seen Minority Report, you'll probably have seen their idea of 3D imaging in the near future, but it just didn't look good to me. So long as I have a 50-inch OLED-HTDV and a hybrid BluRay/HD-DVD player, I'll be immersed enough.

@Special_K:
The 3D imaging concept in Minority Report didn't look good because it's designed to be looked at by just one person and look perfect and 3D to them - the plain of the image follows Tom Cruise's head movements, the camera is seeing the projection from a different angle.
Not that anyone cares, of course, but I'm really putting my effort into my procrastination this weekend so you get it anyway. :)

I'm all for the standard TV screen. How much all around stimulation do we need. I guess this tech is inevitable though, so its pobably better to embrace change than resist it.
